Eat Greek Kouzina is an independent restaurant developed by Greek-South African restaurateurs. Already hugely popular across the UAE with prime locations at The Galleria, The Beach at JBR, and Mall of the Emirates, it has now opened at Dubai Hills Mall, Dubai’s newest shopping mall and lifestyle destination.
Upon entering, you are greeted with warm ambient lighting complete with airy and spacious interiors. Linen drapery, warm wood and textural accents make you feel as if you just escaped to the breezy Greek seaside.
The highlights:
If you have a yearning for a refreshing concoction, take a peek at the beverage menu and treat yourself to their signature Greek blends such as Syros, with Loukoumia, rose water, pistachio, fresh grapefruit and rose petals or Patra, with watermelon, mint, Greek yoghurt, lime and Greek honey. We chose sips of a vibrant strawberry lemonade and homemade lemon iced tea, which offered a delightful gateway into our dining experience.
Dinner began with a plate of crunchy pita bread and mildly flavoured, almost-buttery olive oil to accompany. We continued with a selection of traditional dips, Keftedakia (juicy Greek beef meatballs that paired perfectly with red florina pepper coulis and mint yoghurt) and grilled octopus which was cooked to perfection.
If you love prawns as much as I do, try prawns Saganaki with a rich and flavoursome tomato sauce, red capsicum and feta cheese. Each dish, distinct in its seasoning, texture and presentation, offered a fine start to our evening.
For seafood lovers, we thoroughly suggest the seafood and fish fillet orzo – made of Kritharaki pasta – with fresh tomatoes, calamari and baby prawns. The hearty portion was tender, well-seasoned and unquestionably excellent.
My dining partner tried the Kontosouli slow-roasted beef loin from the chargrill, a tender, succulent meat dish that was well-cooked and had that smoky, just-off-the-barbie finish.
Although we were quite full at this stage, we took a little break and decided to follow the advice of the staff and order a dessert to share, Baklava cheesecake layered with mixed nuts in phyllo pastry, cinnamon and syrup. Delectable and lush, it had a velvety texture and not-too-sweet notes. As the saying says ‘there is always room for dessert…’ we polished it off in no time and it was the perfect end to the evening.
The verdict:
If you’re looking for a spacious, tranquil setting with wide variety of Mediterranean specialties, authentic Greek food, perfectly crafted sips and impeccable service, look no further.
