As part of the Abu Dhabi Food Festival organised by the Department of Culture & Tourism, World of Food Abu Dhabi has broken a world record at A’l Bahar at The Corniche.
Today, the largest meat stew in the world was certified by Guinness World Records.
The Chicken Margougat – a traditional and popular Emirati dish featuring roasted chicken cooked in tomato sauce, and served with traditional Khaboos bread, had to weigh more than 4,200kg to break the existing world record.
The preparation of this record breaking dish was carried out by Etihad Airways at its catering facilities in Al Ain. The massive dish which was made from 1,000 chickens, 1,300kg of vegetables, 400kg of Khaboos and 86 litres of corn oil as well as more than 100kg of spices and was cooked using 15 gas burners in a custom made 3 metre wide pot which has to be delivered by police escort due to its size. Etihad also supported the cooking process of the dish by sending 20 support chefs.
The teams at Purple Kitchen Events, Emirates Culinary Guild, Etihad Airways, Daarzood, Barakat, IFFCO, Nestle, Nevra, Noor Oil and Radisson Blu Hotel Dubai Deira Creek were put to the test by the Guinness World Record adjudicator and all were delighted when the official weight of 4775kg was announced, after deducting the weight of the pot and the weighing chains.
The 20 chefs from Etihad Airways and more than 50 chefs from the Emirates Culinary Guild spent around 6 hours cooking the delicious stew. “It is very satisfying to bring a world record to our capital city Abu Dhabi, and all our partners here have been very supportive. We look forward to breaking a new record at the next Abu Dhabi Food Festival,” said Chef Uwe Micheel, President of the Emirates Culinary Guild.
